One unexpected thing I like about visiting domestic and foreign cities is to see local artwork displays and other architectural puzzles that I research later.
On a recent trip to my nations capital of Washington DC, I ran into a few of these gems. City Center DC has all the upscale retail shops and also displays some outdoor animal sculptures by Hung Yi. A few of Hung Li’s sculptures were on the edges of the City Center neighborhood.
Besides the animal sculptures I ran across another Fire Insurance Company building that reminded me of the one in Georgetown and that in years past, Washington home owners would buy private fire insurance because the private companies would respond to fires much faster than public city fire stations. This one happened to be currently occupied by Starbucks.
I also ran into a throng of Washington Capital hockey fans waiting for entrance. They did finally win the Stanley Cup and after many years of frustration defeated my Pittsburgh Penguins on their road to victory.
On my long walk from the FDR Memorial to the National Museum of Women in The Arts, I passed a few of the iconic Washington DC attractions such as Chinatown….
Capitol Building….
and Washington Monument.
Enjoyed this stroll through some familiar and new landmarks. Thanks, George.
