Alain Ducasse floats a boat

Alaine Ducasse, the super-star chef who is still fighting to hold onto his Jules Verne restaurant on the Eiffel Tower, is opening a floating restaurant that will dock just below the tower.

Starting next Monday, Ducasse Sur Seine, a 130-seat electric cruise boat will take to the river for a 90-minute trip past the city’s sights while eating a €100 lunch or a €150 dinner. Presumably it will not have the audio narration that goes with most of the cruise boats.

In an interview with AFP, Ducasse said “It’s accessible, contemporary French high gastronomy — on a boat. It’s surely the most extraordinary architectural and cultural trip you can have on a river anywhere in the world.”

In court, he is still fighting for the right to operate on the tower, claiming that there was a conflict of interest involved in the award of a contract to two younger chefs.
