Disney’s cruise lines division plans to add more port capacity as it adds new ships, at least one a year, for the next few years.
In the past week, the line announced a new agreement with Miami/Dade on a new cruise terminal on the south side of the port to handle ships with more than 3,500 passengers, a size range Disney is expanding into. The plan requires deepening a channel and turning basin, and getting control of areas now used for cargo.
Besides the Miami plans, Disney has also announced that some of its new ships will operate from its base at Port Canaveral, a short drive away from Orlando and Disney World.
