Venice’s city council apparently has more to worry about than giant cruise ships, millions of visitors and declining population. It’s found time to outlaw Bermuda shorts and morning coffee breaks.
A coffee on arrival at work is apparently a cherished tradition of Venetian civil servants, but the new rules instruct them to “refrain from carrying out activities that delay the effective starting of service.” And, no matter the heat, no shorts allowed at work.
Workers are also now admonished not to use phones or internet at work except for official business. The rules are similar to those adopted by a number of other local councils around Italy.
