After finishing our visit to the National Gallery in London, my brother and I still had about half the afternoon left so we decided to walk to the British Museum, less than a mile away.
It was a pleasant fall afternoon and we enjoyed the walk — so much so that we started exploring side roads so as to see more sights and extend our stroll. This was the kind of day where you avoid the Underground world.
The first part of our walk was through the theatre district, always a fun and colorful place to catch a play and always full of people. Many of these marquees are likely familiar to you.
Street entartainers are common and this busker had a great manner with this young girl and the crowd that had gathered to watch them….
We clipped through a corner of Chinatown….
….and as we continued enjoyed a nice assortment of pubfronts and shops…..
This street clock was somewhat unusual, but it does catch they eye and certainly tells you what time it is. Still over two hours before the British Museum closes — enough to visit the key exhibits that interested us.
Where else but London would you find a shop devoted to the sale of umbrellas? I’m told cabbies refer to this Victorian storefront as the “umbrella shop”. Fortunately won’t need an umbrella today.
Lastly, a barbershop that hopefully takes only a little off the top.
And still time for the Egyptian and Greece exhibits and the Rosetta stone…
