American Airlines is quietly launching a new Economy Web Special discount for members of its AAdvantage loyalty program, but so far it’s limited to six routes and has a catch to it.
The plan sells one-way tickets on shorter routes for 5,000 miles, a discount of 2,500 miles for those routes. The seats are regular economy, with regular baggage and seat selection rules. The catch is that no changes are permitted, and to cancel and have the miles redeposited costs $150 for the first passenger and $25 for any additional.
The routes so far are. Other routes of similar distance that we can hope for would include New York to Washington and Boston, Los Angeles to San Francisco, or possibly even Chicago to New York.
