France: Protest over fuel prices to block roads

Angry over rising prices for gasoline and diesel fuels, thousands of motorists plan to block roads all over France, with the aim of bringing the country to a halt if no action is taken to roll back prices.

Calling themselves ‘yellow vests’—gilets jaunes—after the yellow safety vests French motorists must carry in their cars, they have picked November 17, a Saturday, for the protest that also includes locations in Belgium. On the map above, the selected sites for roadblocks are marked with yellow vests.

So, if you’re visiting in France, it would be a good day to take the train or take to your feet. The yellow marks on the map are as of November 6, and may cover even more of the map by the 18th.
