Windstar Cruises, which specializes in small-ship luxury cruises will soon specialize in somewhat larger-ship luxury cruises, as it stretches its three-ship fleet to add more rooms and more facilities.
Each of the three ships will spend four months at a Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, where it will be cut in half and have a new 84-foot section added in the middle. The extensions are built ahead of time. The ships, which are twenty or so years old, will also get new efficient engines.
When the work is done, each will have an additional 50 cabins, and the overall capacity of the ships will go from 212 to 312 passengers. Each will get a second dining area, a real swimming pool and other facilities, as well as decorating make-overs.
