Around Dupont Circle, Washington, DC

Just east of Georgetown in Washington DC, is the Dupont Circle neighborhood named after Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Du Pont who gained fame during the Mexican-American War during the mid-1800’s.

Residing in my favorite Georgetown Inn location, I took the Circulator Bus at a cost of $1 to Dupont Circle.  My planned destination was the Phillips Collection Art Gallery which didn’t open until after my arrival so I opted to look for other opportunities.

My first option was the nearby Heurich House Museum known as the Brewmaster’s Castle built in 1892 which is located at 1307 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest.  It is open Thursday, Friday and Saturdays for beer tasting and tours of the historical house, but alas I was not there at the right time, so I settled for some exterior photos.006

Back to the Phillip Collection which was still not opened, I went down the alley behind the building to discover the International Arts and Artists building which is located at 9 Hillyer Court NW, Washington, DC.  I’ll bet not many viewers have visited here. The day of my visit they were featuring Urban Mapping by Contemporary Iranian artists.

After leaving this place and the Phillips Collection, I walked back to my Georgetown Inn room and butted into a farmers market, a few vendors of which were from my area near Charlottesville Virginia.

During my wanderings around the area, I noticed the Capital Bikeshare terminals where you can rent a bike for $2 for 30 minutes to another terminal or for $8 for 24 hours.  Also there is a yearly option, but I chose to take the walking method for this day.  It gave me a chance to inspect some of the hidden architecture gems.

Gumbo's Pic of the Day

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
