Hawaiian Airlines is retiring the last of the Boeing 767s that for the past two decades have been the heart of its long-distance fleet, flying to the mainland and to parts of Asia, bringing thousands of vacation-bound passengers.
The Boeings are being replaced by a mix of Airbus A330s and A321neos. It also has 10 Boeing 787-9s on order with delivery starting in 2021. Its interisland services are mainly flown by Boeing 717s, with a few turboprops still used on shorter routes.
The airline, which for its first 50 years was mainly an inter-island small-plane operator replaced its previous fleet of larger planes with the 767s in 2001, and cut itself a significant chunk of the mainland routes, as well as routes to Japan, Korea, China and Australia.
