Jananuary 14, 2019: Canadian Museum of Human Rights, Winnipeg

A new building in Winnipeg’s skyline is the newest National Museum in Canada.  It is also the only National Museum located outside of the nation’s capital city of Ottawa.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is the brainchild of Winnipeg entrepreneur, Izzy Asper, whose family raised a large portion of the money used to construct the building.  The museum is dedicated to the basic rights belonging to every human being, and is not only Canada focused.

It’s in a very futuristic-looking building, completed in 2014, which was designed by American architect, Antoine Predock.  The museum overlooks the Red River and is located adjacent to the historic “Forks” (junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers).

I’ve seen the building a number of times when visiting my father in Winnipeg, but have yet to find the time to visit its exhibits.  I hope to rectify that soon.
