Allegiant Airlines, a rapidly-expanding low-cost carrier, has set its sights on the Northwest-to-Alaska market for the coming summer, with flights between Bellingham, Washington and Anchorage.
The Alaska route is part of a package of 16 new routes, some seasonal and some year-round announced last week. Most follow Allegiant’s pattern of offering low-cost non-stop flights to high-volume leisure destinations in Florida and California plus Las Vegas, but recent additions have linked smaller cities to the network, as well as a more diverse beach portfolio.
The Alaska route will fly from Bellingham to Anchorage. Bellingham, in northern Washington, is within 50 miles of Vancouver, British Columbia. The airport draws many Canadian customers, as flights to U.S. destinations are frequently cheaper from there than from Canada.
