Swiss Federal Railways chief Andreas Meyer is so sorry about late trains that he’s thinking about full refunds for passengers whose trains arrive late.
“Sometimes I am almost ashamed,” he told CH Media in an interview, because passengers get a maximum refund of 10-15 francs when trains are over an hour late. For shorter delays, it’s often no more than a voucher for free coffee as an apology.
His concern comes after SBB slipped from 87.4% on-time arrival to 86%, still one of Europe’s best. Any plans for bigger refunds would have to be approved by the Swiss parliament, which has previously considered a proposal for 25% refund after an hour and 50% after two hours.
