Add two more countries to the list that impose a tax either on visitors entering the country, or in some cases leaving.
Bali and New Zealand will be collecting as you arrive; Japan recently imposed an exit fee that some have dubbed the ‘Sayonara Tax.’
Bali’s fee, about $10, will be dedicated to the island’s environment and cultural preservation according to Gov. Wayan Koster, who says he expects the island’s six million visitors will “be happy to pay it as it will be used to strengthen our environment and culture.”
New Zealand’s fee is a bit heftier, the equivalent of $40 US.
