United Airlines is making changes in its inflight entertainment, including offering free access to DirectTV programming, starting with 200 of its 737s.
The TV offerings, which United used to sell for $5.99 to $7.99, depending on flight length, are a perk long available on a number of other airlines. JetBlue was first, and made its TV offering one its signature features from the beginning. Free TV has also been available on American, Delta and Southwest.
United has also upgraded its accessible entertainment, with programming that is closed-captioned grouped in a menu for quick access. It has over 50 closed-captioned movies, plus 20 with audio description.
