Norwegian Air is taking a pause in its expansion, but it’s not stopping as it copes with financial issues from its ambitious route and fleet expansion programs.
The tightening has resulted in cutting some routes, including last week’s announcement that it will discontinue its routes to the French Caribbean from the U.S. and Canada, with flights to the islands of Guadaloupe and Martinique ending after this winter season, as well as service from the two islands to French Guiana. Technically speaking, the islands are France, and the flights are legally treated as international flights between North America and Europe.
On the plus side, the airline is adding its first service from the U.S. to Athens, with a $159 flight one way from New York JFK to the Greek city starting July 2. Chicago will get a Norwegian connection to Barcelona starting in June. Norwegian already flies there from four other U.S. cities.
