German rail operator Deutsche Bahn is planning billions of Euros in upgrades and repairs this year to catch up on declining on-time records and system congestion.
The system paid out over €50 million in compensation last year for cancelled and delayed trains, and faced increasing criticism over its performance. This year’s plan, focused on the lines shown above, is a significant boost over last year’s.
Among the bottleneck areas where capacity will be upgraded are those between Cologne and Dortmund, Fulda and Mannheim and Würzburg and Nuremberg.
