Jean-Pascal Brideau is a barista in Caraquet who also creates Snow Sculptures. This year he has had plenty of snow to work with. If a snow pile is not provided, he uses his snowblower to build it and lets the snow sit for two or three days before sculpting with a chain saw. Once the sculpting is complete, he uses diluted dollar-store paint, which not only gives it color, but holds the sculpture together longer.
In February, Brideau created a sculpture of four hockey players near the Caraquet wharf for a pond hockey tournament. It was about 18 feet high and equally as long. He spent over 60 hours creating the sculpture. He had help from two volunteers who spent about 30 hours each on it, too.
He did two other sculptures over spring break, Frankie Four Eyes and a Lego in front of a store that sells Legos.
Brideau also attracts visitors from all over New Brunswick to the coffee shop, Grains de Folie, because he can draw anything in a coffee. Looking forward seeing his coffee creations.
