TAP adds free stopovers in Brazil

TAP, Portugal’s national airline, is offering a new plus on its Brazil routes, allowing passengers to add a second Brazilian city to their itinerary, similar to its existing program that allows travelers changing planes in Lisbon to take extra days between flights.

Brazil is a major market for TAP, with two million of its 16 million passengers traveling to the ten cities it serves in Brazil, the largest Portuguese-speaking country in the world and a former Portuguese colony.

The airline’s president, who announced the program at the Lisbon Tourism Fair last week, said he “has no predictions [for this] because it also depends heavily on the execution of the marketing that is done.” But he did point out that the Portugal stopover offer is used by 150,000 to 200,000 travelers a year.
