Copenhagen, one of the world’s foremost cycle cities, is giving itself a new bridge for bikes only, taking them off an existing bridge shared with cars and pedestrians.
The new 175-metre ‘Little Langebro’ bridge is being put in place next to its older sibling, the Langebro bridge that connects two parts of the city. The bridge was built in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and arrived in Denmark last week on a barge. Crowds gathered to watch the huge sections being put in place.
The new bridge will open this fall, and is expected to serve over 10,000 bicycle commuters a day. It’s Copenhagen’s third dedicated bicycle bridge.
