Viking Cruises will partner with a Chinese conglomerate to develop a new cruise line aimed at outbound Chinese cruisers.
Since 2003, Viking has operated cruises on Chinese rivers aimed at inbound tourists, and has more recently been tailoring some of its European river cruises for Chinese visitors. Under its new partnership with China Merchants Group, a state-owned industrial development company, it will create an entire new cruise line, based in China, and selling to Chinese cruise enthusiasts, whose number has been growing.
New ocean cruise ships for the new line will be designed and built in partnership with China Merchants Group’s shipbuilding subsidiaries.
