Brussels’ Central rail station is sprouting big artworks taken from the works of Flemish master Pieter Brueghel the Elder as part of the anniversary of his death 450 years ago.
Sponsored by Toerisme Vlaanderen, the official Flanders Tourism promoter, the display includes typical characters, such as Dulle Griet (above) from his work, as well as landscapes mounted to appear as if they are what is outside the station windows.
There are also other Brueghel events and exhibits in the area around Brussels, where he lived the last part of his life, and the rail authority, SNCB, has special combination tickets from Central for visitors to those stops, including the Bokrijk outdoor museum.
