WestJet: New flights to two Londons

WestJet, the Canadian discount airline that’s known for its puckish humor may not have planned it that way, but it’s given news writers a bit to play with as it announces new routes.

Sunday evening marked the first WestJet 787 flight from Calgary, Alberta to London, England’s Gatwick airport. The same evening, from Edmonton, also in Alberta, the airline’s ultra-low-cost division, Swoop, launched its first flight to London—London, Ontario, south of Toronto.

Swoop serves London from Halifax, Nova Scotia and Abbotsford, BC, and plans more new routes as it grows from six planes to ten. WestJet itself is also growing, and is planning to add 787 flights from Calgary to Paris and Dublin over the next few months as its new Dreamliners arrive. It previously served Gatwick with a 767.
