For those whose knees don’t turn to jelly when looking down from heights, there’s a new treat coming next week when the new Skybridge opens in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, with a glass floor looking w-a-a-a-y down into the valley.
The bridge was built by the company that owns the Skylift chairlift that takes visitors to the top of Crockett Mountain, where the bridge begins. The lift was recently restored after a season of wildfires and the bridge is a new addition.
It’s also already the subject of controversy: Skylift claims it’s the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America at 680 feet, while a rival in British Columbia advertises it’s over 800 feet. Skylift disagrees, basing its measurement not on the total length but on the suspended length between towers. May the best bridge win—as for me, I won’t look down!
