Or as close to it as you can get without putting ‘Hotel’ over the door. The vacation-rental giant is partnering with RXR, a New York developer on two hotel-like projects with rentals only through Airbnb.
One will occupy 10 floors of 75 Rockefeller Plaza in midtown Manhattan with 200 unites, and the other will take part of a former warehouse and manufacturing loft across from the Brooklyn Navy Yard with 150.
Both locations will feature suites with bedroom, living room and kitchen—essentially an extended hotel room. Because the buildings are not presently residential, the suites will not be illegal under New York law that forbids renting apartments for less than 30 days.
The release says that the RXR/Airbnb project will be in compliance with union and operating regulations, including that of the New York Hotel Trades Council. RXR will own and build, Airbnb will be the booker, and an unnamed third-party will be the onsite management
