AA’s museum gets a full reboot

When American Airlines hired a curator from the American (no relation!) Museum of Natural History to re-imagine its CR Smith Museum, they may not have realized how big an imagination it would be.

There’s still plenty of American Airlines souvenirs, ephemera and models, but the new version has 35,000 square feet of interactive exhibits focused on the changing industry and American’s role in it, and provides an inside look at how the airline operates, and focusing on the people who make it work.

Uli Das, the museum’s new director, told The Points Guy that while she had no previous aviation experience, “people are unbelievably passionate about aviation. I came from natural history museums that are very venerated. I thought nothing in the world could ever get anyone as excited as dinosaurs.”

The museum is located on AA’s headquarters campus at Dallas/Fort Worth.
