Among Paris’s many projects being rushed ahead of the 2024 Olympics is a huge facelift and expansion for the venerable and sometimes grimy Gare du Nord, Europe’s busiest rail station.
Plans include a new largely-glass east wing for the station, providing more space for added tracks and, not coincidentally, lots more shops and services, including a rooftop privately-run running track.
The whole project is intended to provide a more pleasant transition from airport to city for visitors, as well as to sort out some of the now-chaotic train-to-train and train-to-bus connections at the station. TheLocal.fr has a longer article with many more views of the project.
