The Netherlands has a goal of getting bikers to ride 20% more by 2027, and a government task force says it will take a massive investment, perhaps €3 billion, to make it happen.
The goal was set to encourage more people to bike, and for bikers to bike more, instead of driving. It’s hoped that it will make a significant difference in air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions.
The money would go into more and safer bicycle paths, more access to bicycle rental systems, improved parking and storage facilities for bikes and measures to make it possible for more people, including some with disabilities, to bike.
