Basel, Switzerland is heavily dependent on its dense network of tram lines, some of them going back to the 19th century. They’re fast, they’re frequent, and most of them look like the modern Bombardier-built beauty at the bottom.
But on a couple of recent days, some of the veterans have been rolled out of the barn and sent off on a new tour of duty, to the delight of locals and visitors alike. One of them even hauled an open car with no sidewalls!
The newer trams have five-to-seven articulated sections, and snake through the city’s narrow streets in ways that defy beliefd.
