Live audience for Rembrandt restoration

Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum is giving the public a chance to look over the shoulders of a team of researchers and restorers working on Rembrandt’s masterpiece Night Watch which is undergoing a year-long restoration.

The team of 20 will be working inside a climate-controlled glass box built around the huge work, which is being studied and restored in its place on the wall. It’s the most extensive study ever for the painting; in addition to restoration work, experts want to assess effects of centuries of public display and 25 previous restorations.

For those of us who can’t drop by, the museum has set up a special website that allows remote watching.
