Fiji Airlines is trying an innovative—and startlingly obvious—solution for passengers who’d rather sleep than eat their in-flight meals: Serve them on the ground.
Noting that nearly a third of passengers between Fiji and Australia skipped their offered meals, especially on late and early flights, with a 38% wastage of food stocked on the planes, the airline is offering business class passengers the option of being served breakfast or dinner in the airline’s airport lounge.
The plan, called “Dine on the Ground,” will be offered for flights to Australia. with the airline’s CEO saying “While the inflight experience has improved dramatically over the years across all airlines, the way in which food is served hasn’t changed too much.”
