China is working on plans to link two of its cities with a mag-lev train line that would run at 500 miles per hour, almost as fast as an airliner.
The line would link Chengdu and Chongqing in China’s Sichuan province, cutting the nearly 400 kilometer distance between them to a half-hour train ride. While mag-lev technology is not new, and is in use in the world’s fastest train, Shanghai’s airport link, a line of this length and speed would be a first.
The project’s research is based at a Chengdu university. No date for a final decision or when the line might be completed has been made.
