Everyone knows about the Japanese smart toilets that can perform a variety of sanitary tasks at the touch of a button, but now Dutch engineers have developed a toilet that’s so smart it can tell you what to eat.
The device contains sensors to measure heart rate and blood pressure as well as analyzing urine and waste deposits. It’s been installed as a test at a Dutch music festival. Jolanda Bax, one of the project’s researchers, told Dutch press that ‘We are asking festival goers to use our experiment, and, based on the results, we can give them menu suggestions.”
Users get suggestions that tell them to drink more if urine is too salty, to eat a seeded roll if they need more fiber, and maybe to lay off all that good festival beer if the alcohol content’s a bit high. Long run, it’s part of plans to gain more complete information about public health and plan for hospital and medical needs.
Short term, some people will think it’s collecting TMI.
