One of our stops during a dayhike in the Urbamba Valley was a small schoolhouse. There was nothing fancy to school — everyone in a simple room, with a hard-working teacher running the show. But the children were captivating!
They were dressed in colorful woolen clothes typical of the region. And the were very curious to meet this group of travelers. We spent a few minutes observing and talking to them, and gave them gifts of pencils and pens before continuing our trek while they went back to their lessons.
The colors and smiles of those kids stayed have with me.
Just beautiful!
