Nothing all that unusual about a bear hibernating…just not usually in a hotel ladies’ room, which is what happened recently at Buck’s T-4 Lodge in Big Sky, Montana.
The bear, about a year old, found its way through an open window and was unable to climb high enough to get back out, so it stretched out on a comfortable sink and went to sleep, apparently waiting for someone else to solve the problem.
And the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department did that, eventually tranquilizing the cub and carrying it our for relocation in a somewhat wilder area of the state. A video posted online shows the sheriff’s workers, seemingly alone in the lobby, fetching the bear. Once they began carrying out the bear, the lobby fills with people following the bear and taking pictures.
Usually bears this young stick with their moms. I’m sure she would have made clear if she were around that it’s best to avoid those smelly humans.
