My wife and I spent a day strolling through the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires without any firm plans or destination — just to see what we would find. Around lunch time we passed by the Decorative Arts Museum. Our guide book recommended its café as a good place to eat so we stopped for a rest, to dry out a little, and to enjoy a good meal.
The Decorative Arts Museum was not on our list of places to visit, but likely is worth seeing if we ever return. The Museum was formally the French-influenced home of one of Argentina’s richest families and still holds many of the family’s collectibles like artwork, chandeliers and antiques. A visit offers the opportunity to see how wealthy Argentinians lived more than a century ago. We just looked around the grounds a little before we left.
Croque Madame Café has a separate entrance and a broad menu including breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, pastas and more. It has patio seating for fair-weather days, but its interior is intimate and charming and definitely reminded us of a European café. Its hours are 10am to midnight daily.
