The Eurailpass system that once meant cheap and carefree rail travel across Europe is trying to get that vibe back with a new and simpler list of passes and some new price incentives.
The passes, which provide unlimited rail travel for a specific period, are now down to a choice of either an all-of-Europe Global Pass covering 31 countries or a single-country pass. Those replace the ‘select’ passes that required picking specific packages of countries.
Prices for the Global Pass have also been trimmed; in recent years most travelers could do better buying point-to-point tickets unless they had really rail-heavy itineraries; the new charts may reverse that trend. Passes can be bought for periods as short as three days.
