The gladiators and mock naval battles are gone; there are no more horse races or animal shows—but even without entertainment, ticket prices at Rome’s Colosseum are still going up.
The city’s official ticket agency for the 2,000-year-old Roman arena has announced a 33% increase in the basic ticket to take effect on Nov. 1st that will take the price from €12 to €16, with the premium ticket that allows visiting the floor of the arena as well as the stands going from €14 to €18.
That’s actually even a bigger increase than it appears: while both tickets include admission to the Roman Forum and to the Palatine Hill as well as the Colosseum, starting in November, only the higher-price one will allow the visit to be spread over two days. Up to now, all tickets have had that option.
