Clarence Drive is part of the R44 which runs east from Cape Town along the coastline. It offers some spectacular views, as illustrated above and in the three shots below. All were taken just from the side of the road.
Clarence Drive is the beginning of the Cape’s Whale Coast Route, which takes you through Betty’s Bay (– home to the Stony Point penguin colony and the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden) …
… and on to Hermanus, which is famous for its splendid whale watching sites.
The whales apparently gather in large numbers right here in the bay and can easily be seen from the shoreline. Unfortunately, the season runs from roughly June to December – and we were there in March.
