Bodø, Norway will become Europe’s first Arctic Capital of Culture when its turn comes up in 2024.
The Capital of Culture program is a European Union initiative to support efforts at creating pan-European culture and awareness. Selected cities are funded to prepare and present a series of cultural events, and to spruce up and prepare for visitors from all over.
Each year, two EU cities and one non-EU city get the honor. Bodø won the non-EU spot over Banja Luka and Mostar, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and will share the year with Tartu, Estonia and an Austrian town to be named next month.
