While Qantas makes plans for super-long-distance nonstop flights to London and New York, a report from the Official Airlines Guide has come up with a list of routes that attract plenty of passengers but have no direct sBrervice.
All the ‘missing link’ routes are easily within the range of a 787 or A350, but no one is flying it. Deirdre Fulton, the report’s author, says that even though the routes have many passengers they may not be economically viable because many of those passengers are looking for bargain prices more than for speed.
The number one unserved route on the list is Los Angeles to Ho Chi Minh City, a 7,090-mile route that carried 270,000 passengers last year, but all of them had to buy tickets to somewhere else in between. San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh City is also on the list, at #4. LA to Bangkok is in second, followed by Brisbane to London, Dacca to JFK, Paris to Bali, Bangkok to JFK, Beirut to Sydney, Chicago to Sydney and Frankfurt to Sydney.
