Some people travel for the sights and scenes of their destination and are happy enough with minimum hotel—a bed in a box. Others are looking for a luxury base or resort to while away hours by the water.
But funny (seriously folks) no one really thinks about two weeks in a hotel in Dayton, Ohio, with unlimited room service and nothing to do but sit in the room and churn out humor. Well, not quite no one. Two writers have just won that as 2020 winners of a prize named for humorists Erma Bombeck and Anna Lefler.
The 2020 winners of this Humorist-in-Residence award are an editorial and content developer from Chicago’s Second City cabaret and a communications and PR pro from Massachusetts. In keeping with Erma Bombeck’s claim that she did her best writing in her bathrobe, the award ceremony will see the two robed in plush custom-embroidered bathrobes at the conclusion of this year’s University of Dayton Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop, and will then spend their two-weeks at the University of Dayton Marriott.
The two winners were selected from a field of 396 entries from eight countries.
