Washington, DC is getting a new museum next spring, opening in a renovated historic school building. Planet Word, set to open in May, will feature immersive galleries of language-focused exhibits and interactive displays.
Among the galleries, there will be spaces with poetry in sound and word, areas that allow visitors to create ad pitches, deliver famous speeches, or learn a few words of another language, and much more.
The new museum is the project of Ann Friedman, a former elementary teacher who is also daughter of a billionaire mall-developer. The family money could be important; a previous DC-area language museum closed for lack of funds in 2014.
