MSC adds accessible shore tours

Facing the ‘gray wave’ and its increasing number of avid travelers with mobility issues, MSC Cruises is rolling out an ambitious program to equip its cruises with a variety of accessible shore excursions that mean that more of its passengers will be able to have a full off-ship experience.

The new “Accessible Tours Program”, debuting now in eleven Caribbean ports with nine Mediterranean ports to follow, promises tour routes that are step-free, wheelchair accessible, run at a slower pace and include planned stops at accessible restrooms. They may cover shorter distances, but will not just be adjustments to other excursions.

The accessible tours will also be available to family and friends or just to other passengers who are interested. Guides leading the tours will be experienced in working with guests with varied mobility. MSC lists, among others, tours of Old San Juan, the Open Air Museum in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, dining tours on St Maarten, an excursion to Pompeii and Marseille’s Vieux Port.
