I came across this small cemetery, which lies within Birds Hill Provincial Park, while exploring the park this fall. It’s a small cemetery in a pretty place, filled with the graves of the Ukrainian and Polish settlers who homesteaded the area around the park (having bought, cleared and maintained the land). The area around Birds Hill Park is on somewhat higher ground so people who lived here are able to avoid the frequent flooding of the Red River.
It’s estimated there are about 350 burials in the cemetery. Future burials are only allowed for those descendants of the pioneers already laid to rest here.
The cemetery is maintained by the congregation of the Immaculate Conception Church at Cook’s Creek.
