In Shenzhen, China, Windows of the World is a 118-acre theme park built around scaled reproductions of 130 of the world’s prime tourism attractions; it’s reached via a Metro station modeled after the Louvre pyramid. Among its most notable structures is a one-third scale Eiffel Tower.
Not all the reproduced sites are western; they include the temples of Angkor Wat, gates of Babylon, the Taj Mahal and more, often leading to unlikely juxtapositions for visitors wandering through. Visitors can buy a fake passport, which park staff will stamp with ‘visas’ for the countries visited.
