In a near repeat of its Cyber Monday sale, Megabus is offering thousands of free tickets on many of its routes and dates, though this time around, there’s an add-on pair of fees for a total of $4.00 per ticket.
There seems to be a bidding war for passengers going on among the nation’s long-haul bus discounters; the new move comes after rival Flixbus responded to the original promotion that ended Sunday, offering tickets at 99c apiece.
Both companies serve a variety of large-to-medium cities and campuses, with over a hundred destinations each. Megabus is owned by British transit company Stagecoach, while Flixbus is based in Germany, and has a dense European network. It arrived in the U.S. later than Megabus, but has been expanding aggressively. Ironically, Megabus’s operations in continental Europe were taken over by Flixbus in 2016.
