Airbnb: Gen Z is open to ‘Experiences’

Airbnb has noted a big uptick in reservations in the Asia-Pacific region by the under-24 travelers of Generation Z, and they’re not just booking a place to sleep; they have become the fastest-growing segment for Airbnb’s ‘Experiences’ product.

Experiences are one of Airbnb’s strategies to grow in more parts of the travel business, offering classes, tours and ..well… experiences to travelers in cities where they are staying. They come in categories such as Adventures, Animal Experiences, cooking classes and more.

The Gen Z travelers, according to Airbnb, are more interested in experiencing cultures than in sightseeing, and they are able to travel more freely and frequently than most previous generations.

While Thailand is a popular stop-and-experience spot for the group, especially for food-based offerings, the five biggest markets they’re going to are Bali, Tokyo, Kyoto, Seoul and Sydney. The most-booked experiences include sports and nature, cooking and food, and entertainment.
