The Mystery Spot is a roadside attraction, and now is a California Landmark too. It was opened by George Prather in 1939.
Visitors would walk up a short steep hill to a tilted house. A guide, usually an outgoing young person, shows feats where the laws of gravity seem to dissapear, like balls and water running uphill.
Also, because of the tilted house, everybody seems tilted standing up and it’s great to take photos.
My sister first took me to the Mystery Spot, when I was a boy, over 40 years ago. I’ve always remembered that fun place and I was thrilled when she took us there again this year.
The tour is more popular now but it still is like I remembered it. The place is about fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously. They give out free bumper stickers at the end of the tour. They say that’s been their best advertising strategy over the years.
