U.S. tightens Cuba travel again

The U.S. is making it even harder for U.S. residents to visit Cuba, even for the organized groups that are still permitted for family visits by Cuban-Americans and education or cultural tours. Starting in 60 days, no charter flights will be permitted except to Havana.

Since the U.S. banned cruise calls a few months ago, and cut all scheduled airline flights except to Havana, charter flights to other Cuban airports have been the mainstay for the permitted groups since scheduled flights were stopped. There will also be new limits on ‘public charter’ flights to Havana, but details have not been announced.

Administration sources said that the cutbacks are designed to punish Cuba for its support of Venezuela, but the Trump Administration has been generally hostile to the opening of travel to Cuba during the Obama administration.
